Synopsis
Bị Kẹt/Limbo tells the story of Tung, a man who was brought to the U.S. as a refugee of the Vietnam War, but is now awaiting deportation as a result of the challenges faced by refugees struggling to integrate into American society. His story is unique and heart-wrenching, but also resonates with 13,000 other Southeast Asian Americans who are also at risk of deportation. This film aims to expose how U.S. structures have set Vietnamese Americans on the trajectory of the school-to-prison-to-deportation pipeline, while also highlighting community resistance against these unjust systems.

Bị Kẹt/Limbo kể câu chuyện về Tùng, người đàn ông được đưa tới Mỹ với tư cách dân tỵ nạn của Chiến Tranh Việt Nam, nhưng giờ đây đang chờ bị trục xuất. Ghi lại những thử thách nhiều người trẻ thế hệ thứ hai phải đối mặt, câu chuyện chạm tới trái tim của Tùng cộng hưởng với 13,000 người khác cũng đang có nguy cơ bị trục xuất. Bộ phim phơi bày cách các chính sách nhập cư đã đặt những người Mỹ gốc Đông Nam Á vào con đường từ trường học tới nhà tù, tới trục xuất, cùng lúc nhấn mạnh sự kháng cự lại hệ thống bất công.

Director's Biography
Lan Nguyen is a first year Masters student in the Asian American Studies and Social Welfare departments. She grew up in Cambodia Town in Long Beach, California, and is thus interested in studying how Southeast Asian American communities in Southern California resist systems of oppression. She is involved in APIROC, which addresses deportation and re-entry services for Asian and Pacific Islander populations and Viet-Unity, which is a progressive political organization.
