More information on ViFF Flashback || Flashforward is the theme of ViFF 2013. To flashback, ViFF 2013 looks back at the last decade of groundbreaking Vietnamese and overseas Vietnamese cinema, while at the same time, flashforwards to its unwavering promise in the future. From the work of pioneering filmmakers such as Tran Anh Hung, Tony Bui, Timothy Linh Bui, and Charlie Nguyen to a vibrant generation of Vietnamese filmmakers from around the world, Vietnamese cinema has moved beyond its geographical boundaries to reach a truly global audience. Between such flashbacks and flashforwards, ViFF 2013 takes a moment to pause and reflect on the innovations that have made Vietnamese cinema what it is today. ViFF is presented by the Vietnamese American Arts and Letters Association (VAALA) and UCLA’s Vietnamese Language and Culture (VNLC). ViFF was established in October 2003 to showcase Vietnamese and Vietnamese Diaspora filmmakers. The mission of ViFF is to support, celebrate, and project a diversity of visions and voices from filmmakers of Vietnamese descent and films by, for, and about the Vietnamese people and culture. |
