ViFF 2007: Sharing Visions - a brief look at the third biennial film festival


Carrying the theme of Sharing Visions, the Vietnamese International Film Festival (ViFF) 2007 took place from April 12 – 15 and April 19 – 22 at the University of California, Irvine (UCI), University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and Westminster.  ViFF 2007 attracted an enthusiastic crowd of more than 4000 people to all events including screenings, receptions, and symposiums.  ViFF 2007 screened a record number of films: 51 films by some of the most prominent filmmakers of Vietnamese descent from around the world including Canada, France, Germany, Israel, Poland, Vietnam and the U.S. 

Our special, free-admission programs such as Senior Citizens Day and High School Day lured a diverse audience from various age groups. Extensively covered by local, national as well as international press, ViFF 2007 not only presented the films but also provided educational tools for the audience in learning about different aspects of filmmaking.

In recognizing the filmmakers’ effort and achievements, we presented the following awards:

Spotlight Award:

Screenwriter Nguyen Thi Minh Ngoc for her feature length script, LIVING IN FEAR (SỐNG TRONG SỢ HÃI)

 

The Trống Đồng Awards – given by the Screening and Executive Committees:

Short film: WINDOWBREAKER  by Tze Chun

Feature film: JOURNEY FROM THE FALL (VƯỢT SÓNG) by Ham Tran

 

The Audience Choice Awards:

Short films: GOING HOME by Hung P. Nguyen & BOLINAO 52 by Duc Nguyen

Feature film: THE REBEL (DÒNG MÁU ANH HÙNG) by Charlie Nguyen
