MOTHER TONGUE, FATHER LAND

MOTHER TONGUE, FATHER LAND, directed by Cuong Simon Phan, is a documentary featuring personal accounts of the Vietnamese Amerasians in the United States. The film follows the stories of these Amerasians from the time of war, through their journey to America, and to the present day after having settled in the U.S. for several years. The documentary runs 80 minutes, color and black & white, in Vietnamese with English subtitles. Now available on DVD, please visit:

Cuong Simon Phan was born in Vietnam. He came to the United States at the end of the Vietnam war. Cuong received his M.F.A in Film and Video from California Institute of the Arts, Valencia. A monk of St. John's Abbey, he currently teaches art and video at Saint John's University and College of Saint Benedict.

MOTHER TONGUE, FATHER LAND was screened in many film festivals and artistic events including ViFF 2003, Asian Pacific American Film Festival, Washington D.C., Cinefest Vietnam in Maryland, 30 Years of Vietnam in Diaspora, Westminster, California. It was broadcast on International Channel Networks and Twins Cities Public Television, PBS.
