IRVINE – The submission deadline for the 6th biennial Vietnamese International Film Festival (ViFF) is December 1, 2012. Organized by Vietnamese American Arts & Letters Association (VAALA) and Vietnamese Language & Culture (VNLC), ViFF will take place over two weekends from April 4-7 & April 11-14, 2013 at the University of California, Irvine (UCI), University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana. The Opening Night will be held at Edwards University Cinema 6 in Irvine. PRODUCTIONS ELIGIBLE FOR CONSIDERATION: Feature-length and short productions of any content (not necessarily related to Vietnam or Vietnamese) by persons of Vietnamese descent living anywhere around the world or productions by anyone about Vietnamese people or culture in the following categories:
Films must have English subtitles if they are not in the English language. NO ENTRY FEE ENTRY DEADLINE: Entries MUST BE POSTMARKED no later than December 1, 2012. We will announce final selections by early March 2013. Rough cuts are acceptable with final film versions shown in April 2013. For more information and an entry form, please

have any questions. Since 2003, ViFF has been widely known as the largest Vietnamese film festival outside of Vietnam. In the past decade, ViFF has attracted thousands of national and international attendees and showcased hundreds of shorts and features that have been submitted from many corners of the world, countries like the United States, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Israel, Poland, United Kingdom, and Vietnam. Following the success of its first five festivals, ViFF 2013 commemorates its 10th year anniversary and continues a biennial tradition of celebrating cinema by and about people of Vietnamese descent. To mark this occasion, we are proud to present this year's theme of "Flashback / Flashforward." In flashback, ViFF 2013 looks back at the last decade of groundbreaking Vietnamese and overseas Vietnamese cinema, at the same time that we flashforward to its unwavering promise in the future. From the work of pioneering filmmakers like Tran Anh Hung, Tony Bui, Timothy Linh Bui, and Charlie Nguyen to a vibrant generation of Vietnamese filmmakers from around the world, Vietnamese cinema has moved beyond its geographical boundaries to reach a truly global audience. Between these flashbacks and flashforwards in time, ViFF 2013 takes a moment to pause and reflect on the innovations that have made Vietnamese cinema what it is today. Through the universal language of cinema, ViFF celebrates the diversity of our communities by bringing together a multiplicity of perspectives and voices. Committed to expanding the horizons of Vietnamese cinema, ViFF provides a nurturing environment for its artists to engage in a broadening dialogue with an international community. As a result, it has become a unique and important platform for filmmakers of Vietnamese descent around the world. ViFF also serves as an important educational tool for learning about the historical and contemporary experiences of the Vietnamese in the United States and throughout the world. As it has done every year, ViFF will present its Grand Jury Awards, the Trống Đồng Award, for Best Feature Film and Best Short Film, as well as awards for Best Actor and Best Actress. Audience members at ViFF will also have a chance to vote for the Audience Choice Award for feature and short films. All awards will be announced at the Closing Night of the film festival. |
IRVINE – Hạn chót gửi phim tham dự Đại Hội Điện Ảnh Việt Nam Quốc Tế (Vietnamese International Film Festival – ViFF) là ngày 1 tháng 12, 2012. Do hai tổ chức bất vụ lợi gồm Hội Văn Học Nghệ Thuật Việt Mỹ (VAALA) và Hội Văn Hóa & Ngôn Ngữ (VNLC) tổ chức, ViFF sẽ được diễn ra từ 4-7 & 11-14 tháng Tư, năm 2013 tại đại học University of California, Irvine (UCI), University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), và Viện Bảo Tàng Bowers ở Santa Ana. Không cần đóng lệ phí. Phim đóng dấu bưu điện trễ nhất là ngày 1 tháng 12, 2012. Xin vào thăm trang nhà www.VietFilmFest.com để lấy đơn nộp phim. Ban tổ chức sẽ thông báo kết quả tuyển chọn phim vào tháng 3, 2013. Mọi thắc mắc xin email về ViFF@vaala.org. Chúng tôi nhận bản nháp (rough cut), tuy nhiên, bản chính phải được hoàn tất kịp thời để chiếu vào tháng Tư, năm 2013. Chủ đề của ViFF năm nay là “Flashback / Flashforward.” Với “flashback” (“hồi tưởng”), ViFF 2013 nhìn lại một thập niên của điện ảnh Việt, và sau đó sẽ “flashforward” (“viễn tưởng”) – hướng tới tương lai. Từ những tác phẩm của các đạo diễn tiên phong như Trần Anh Hùng, Tony Bùi, Timothy Linh Bùi, và Charlie Nguyễn đến một thế hệ đạo diễn mới gốc Việt trên toàn thế giới, điện ảnh Việt đang cố gắng nới rộng khán giả toàn cầu. Ở giữa phần “flashback” và “flashforward”, ViFF dừng lại để chiêm nghiệm những sáng kiến, nhất là lãnh vực kỹ thuật, vốn đã góp phần làm nên điện ảnh Việt ngày hôm nay. Mục đích của Đại Hội Điện Ảnh Việt Nam Quốc Tế (ViFF) gồm hỗ trợ và quảng bá tác phẩm của các đạo diễn người Việt trên toàn thế giới. Đại hội cũng hỗ trợ và quảng bá phim mang đề tài về con người hoặc văn hóa Việt Nam. Như mọi năm, ViFF sẽ trao giải Trống Đồng dành cho phim hay nhất (phim dài và phim ngắn), và giải Tài tử xuất sắc (nam và nữ). Khán giả của ViFF cũng sẽ được bầu chọn phim dài và phim ngắn hay nhất. Tất cả giải thưởng sẽ được công bố trong buổi lễ bế mạc của ViFF. |
