Synopsis

When competitive e-sport player Nhat Minh finds out he has cancer, he finally faces one game he cannot beat. He falls into depression until meeting Anh Duong, a wedding vlogger who is also dying of the disease. Her final wish is to have the wedding of her dreams and so Nhat Minh is hired to be a fake groom for the big day. With only months left on earth, the couple must make the romantic plans come true. But are expectations too high? 100 days reveals the personal sacrifice we make for our life passions, despite the inevitability of death.
Phoenix Ngoc Vu made his debut at VFF in 2013 with his short, What If, and returned in 2016 to debut Zodiac 12: Five Steps of Love (12 Chòm Sao: Vẽ Đường Cho Yêu Chạy), his first feature length film. The film has gone to win many awards and became a box office hit. The upward career trajectory for this young Vietnamese director is solidified once more in 100 Days of Sunshine, as his unique style allows his storytelling to stand out among the Vietnamese romantic comedy genre.

Khi Nhật Minh, cựu game thủ hiếu thắng, biết mình bị ung thư, cuối cùng anh cũng phải đối mặt với trò chơi anh không thể đánh bại. Anh rơi vào trầm cảm cho tới khi gặp Ánh Dương, một vblogger cũng đang chết dần vì căn bệnh này. Ước nguyện cuối của cô là có một đám cưới trong mơ, và do đó Nhật Minh được mướn để làm chú rể đóng thế trong ngày trọng đại. Chỉ còn vài tháng để sống, cặp đôi phải biến những kế hoạch lãng mạn thành sự thật. Nhưng có phải những trông đợi quá cao? 100 Ngày cho thấy sự hy sinh cá nhân chúng ta phải thực hiện cho những đam mê trong đời, mặc cho sự không thể tránh khỏi của cái chết.
Phoenix Ngoc Vu lần đầu tiên xuất hiện ở VFF năm 2013 với phim ngắn What If, và rồi trở lại vào năm 2016 với phim dài đầu tay: 12 Chòm Sao: Vẽ Đường Cho Yêu Chạy. Bộ phim đã giành rất nhiều giải thưởng và trở thành hiện tượng phòng vé. Con đường sự nghiệp rộng mở dành cho đạo diễn trẻ Việt Nam này một lần nữa lại được khẳng định trong 100 Ngày Bên Em, phong cách độc đáo của anh khiến cách kể chuyện của anh nổi bật ở thể loại phim tình cảm hài Việt Nam.

Director's Biography
Vu Ngoc Phuong (Phoenix Vu) has established himself as one of the most important participants in the new wave of young filmmakers in Vietnam. Started out as a director for music videos, he rose to prominence with 2014 Zing Music Award for Best Music Video. His works in the music industry eventually became the launchpad for him to enter the film industry, firstly as a screenwriter for the highly successful feature Dandelion (Chàng Trai Năm Ấy) (2014). Soon, he introduced his feature directorial debut – Zodiac 12: Five Steps of Love (12 Chòm Sao: Vẽ Đường Cho Yêu Chạy) (2015). The film earned numerous prizes and accolades, including three prestigious Vietnamese Golden Kite Awards for Best Director, Best Actress & Best Supporting Actress in 2016. Aside from his works with feature films, he has proven himself a successful & prolific director of short films, having created many well-received shorts.
Director's Statement
I feel like we are all trying to live two lives at once: our normal life, eating, sleeping, working, falling in love; and our virtual life – counting the number of views and interactions on social networks, connecting with people everywhere around the world, and even living another life through video games and other online activities. Our virtual life has become an important part of our identity, even as a means to escape reality and be whoever we want to be. But in the end, we still can’t escape death, we still can’t escape illness, and we can’t escape our emotions. It might take a crazy ride for us to realize the important things in our life, but then it might be too late. We are no immortals, we all have limited time, we only live once. In this story, Ánh Dương & Nhật Minh, whose names literally mean Sun Light and Bright Sun, went through the darkest days of their lives. They could no longer hide in their virtual worlds and had to face reality. They found sadness in their tragedy, but they also found each other, and found that light of clarity; just like I found my Sunshine in their 100 Days of love story.
