With support from the Ford Foundation since 2005, the Film Studies Program provides full-time, graduate-level instruction in screenwriting and critical writing for film and television at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Hanoi. In 2008 the program introduced short film production as a new component of the curriculum and invited Charlie Nguyen to lead a two-week shooting script workshop. The entire class wrote, produced and directed the short film Tieng Cho Tru together under the guidance of Charlie Nguyen:
