Janet and Susan Hoskins

Janet Hoskins is an anthropologist and filmmaker who has, in collaboration with her sister Susan Hoskins, produced and written two earlier ethnographic films about Indonesia (Horses of Life and Death (1994) and Feast in Dream Village (1991), both distributed by the University of California Media Center). She has also published 6 books on Southeast Asian religions and cultures, including The Play of Time (winner of the 1996 Benda Prize in Southeast Asian Studies), Biographical Objects: How Things Tell the Stories of People’s Lives, and edited collections on Anthropology as the Search for the Self, Headhunting and the Social Imagination in Southeast Asia, Fragments from Forests and Libraries, and Blood Mysteries. She is currently finishing a book about Caodaism and other indigenous Vietnamese religions in the context of California immigrant communities. Susan Hoskins has worked for over 20 years in television documentary production as an editor, sound editor, writer and director, including projects at NBC (Unsolved Mysteries), the History Channel, and Biography.
