Being born and raised in a very poor family, Lan’s life is filled with images of her mom riding an old bicycle to go around selling steamed glutinous rice and her dad’s broken cyclo. Ashamed of her poverty, she wishes she can escape it but she keeps the thought to herself since she loves her family much more. Lan’s first step in escaping her life happens when she passes the university entrance exam. Although they are riddled with financial burden once again, Lan’s parents know that their dream of changing their
destiny is coming true. The real values in this hard life of labor are the sacrifices made by parents for their children.
